A Luxury Retreat: Sanquhar's Historic Hotel Transformed into a Family Home
The picturesque south of Scotland is witnessing a unique transition as a luxurious hotel, steeped in history, is being converted back into a family residence. Blackaddie House Hotel, a four-star establishment in Sanquhar, carries a rich past dating back to 1540 when it was constructed as the rectory for St Bride's Church.
This iconic building, which has been a hotel for the past 60 years, was recently listed for sale with an asking price of over £950,000 for the entire site, including additional structures. The main property has now been sold, and the surrounding cottages and the owner's bungalow may follow suit in the future.
Harriet Simpson, a senior property consultant at Fine & Country Scotland, revealed the new owners' plans. She stated, 'The main hotel building is being acquired by a family who intend to use it as their family home.'
Despite the sale, the area's charm remains intact. The property boasts an enviable elevated position near the River Nith, a renowned fishing spot. The nearby mainline railway station offers excellent connectivity, while road links to Glasgow and Dumfries are equally impressive.
The current owners, who have invested significantly in upgrading the facilities, are retiring, hence the decision to sell. Simpson assured that the property will be handed over in excellent condition, reflecting their dedication to maintaining its historical significance.
