Dread Central's New Era: Brad Miska Takes Over! (2026)

The Horror Genre Gets a New Champion: Brad Miska's Return to the Scene

In a thrilling turn of events, the horror landscape is about to undergo a significant transformation. Brad Miska, a renowned figure in the horror industry, is back with a bang, and this time, he's taking on a new role as the owner of Dread Central, a leading competitor to his former venture, Bloody Disgusting.

But here's where it gets controversial... Miska, a co-founder of Bloody Disgusting, sold the website in 2021 and has since been working behind the scenes in movie production. His involvement in the Terrifier movies as a producer showcases his continued passion for the genre and a desire to make his mark.

And this is the part most people miss: Miska's return to the horror web scene is not just a simple comeback. It's a strategic move that involves the creation of a new independent horror media company, Be Afraid Media, alongside his siblings, Heather and Peter Luttrell. With their combined expertise in digital media and advertising, they aim to revolutionize the horror genre's online presence.

"Dread Central has been an iconic voice in horror for almost two decades," Miska told The Hollywood Reporter. "Our mission is to amplify its reach and accessibility while upholding the integrity and independence cherished by its loyal audience."

Founded in 2006, Dread Central has been a trusted source for horror enthusiasts, covering films, television, and culture. However, its financial struggles have been well-documented, with a Kickstarter campaign in 2016 keeping the site afloat. Epic Pictures' acquisition in 2017 provided a temporary solution, but now, Be Afraid Media aims to take it to new heights.

The acquisition of Dread Central by Be Afraid Media is just the beginning. The company also acquired DreadTV, a prominent FAST horror channel, and entered into a multi-year streaming distribution agreement with Epic. Patrick Ewald, Epic's CEO and owner, will even join Be Afraid Media's Board of Directors, ensuring a smooth transition.

But wait, there's more! Dread Releasing and DreadXP, Epic's film production and video game publishing divisions, will continue to operate independently, showcasing the diverse nature of the horror ecosystem.

Be Afraid Media is confident that their portfolio will reach over 16 million horror fans across various digital, social, streaming, and commerce platforms. With Miska's extensive experience in the industry, including co-founding Bloody Disgusting in 2001 and his involvement in V/H/S and Kids vs Aliens, he brings a wealth of knowledge to the table.

Miska shared his vision, stating, "Our immediate focus is on revitalizing our FAST channel and building a robust podcast network. We aim to expand across the entire horror ecosystem, including live events, merchandise, production, and distribution."

"Our goal is straightforward," he continued, "to become the most beloved and trusted brand in horror. We're expanding our reach by acquiring key genre assets and developing new original content internally."

One of Dread Central's co-founders, Jon Condit, praised the new ownership, saying, "There is no better team to lead Dread Central into its next era. They understand the genre, respect the audience, and have the expertise to guide Dread into a new and exciting phase. I'm eager to see what the future holds under their leadership."

So, what do you think? Is this a brilliant move for the horror genre, or does it raise concerns about the future of independent horror media? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
